Glossary

Definitions of the game, pool and blockchain terms used in Candle Genie.

Games and timing

Round: A Price Prediction contest with an opening time, lock time and close time.
Epoch: The sequence number identifying a price round.
Trading pair: The asset and quote currency used for a price round.
Event / market: A question with listed outcomes, entry times and a settlement rule.
Outcome: An available answer to an event question, or UP / DOWN in Price Prediction.
Position: A wallet's recorded stake on an outcome.
Open: The start of the entry window.
Lock: The time after which the contract no longer accepts entries.
Close: The end of a price round's measurement period, or the expected end time of an event.
Resolution: Recording the result used to calculate payout eligibility.
Awaiting resolution: An event has reached its expected end time but has no recorded result.
UTC: Coordinated Universal Time. Event question times use their stated timezone; card timestamps use the device's timezone.

Stake: The amount entered on an outcome.
Outcome pool: The amount allocated to one outcome, including seed and player entries.
Total pool / prize pool: The sum of the outcome pools.
Seed: The platform contribution allocated to outcome pools. Event seed is split equally and participates in the payout formula, using a shared contract balance.
Pool share: One outcome's pool as a percentage of the total pool.
Gross multiplier: The total pool divided by an outcome's pool, before the claim fee.
Reward rate: The percentage of the pool used in payout calculations. A rate of 95 corresponds to a 5% claim fee.
Claim fee: The difference between the gross return and the payout calculated with the reward rate.
Claim: A transaction that collects an eligible winning payout.
Refund: A transaction that returns an eligible original stake without a claim fee. Network gas is separate.
Refund timeout: For an unresolved event, seven days after lock. Reaching this time enables refunds and prevents later resolution.
Event stake limit: The maximum combined amount a wallet can enter across all outcomes in one event.

Lock price: The price recorded at the beginning of a price round's measurement period.
Close price: The price recorded at the end of that measurement period.
Bull / Bear: The contract terms for UP and DOWN.
Tie: A price round with equal recorded lock and close prices.
Oracle: A data source used to supply a price reading to a contract.
Settlement rule: An event's published source, conditions and reference time for selecting the winning outcome.
EventHash: The stored hash of an event's question and outcome labels. Entry transactions must supply a matching value.
Protected funds: Recorded player obligations, including unsettled stakes, unpaid payouts or unpaid refunds. Event seed is not included as a separate reserve.
Free collateral: The contract balance above recorded player obligations, or zero when the balance is lower. This amount limits operator withdrawals.

Wallet address: The blockchain address associated with entries, payouts and refunds.
BNB: The native currency used for game amounts and gas on BNB Smart Chain.
Gas: The network fee for executing a transaction.
Wei: The smallest unit of BNB. One BNB equals 10 to the power of 18 wei.
Transaction hash: The identifier used to look up a submitted transaction and its status.
Revert: A transaction failure that rolls back its state changes and value transfer. An included transaction still uses gas.
Smart contract: The blockchain program that records entries, processes results and transfers eligible payouts or refunds.
Explorer: A tool for viewing contract addresses, code, balances and transactions.
